From the Hitachiin brothers in the Ouran High School Host Club to Kawata, the anime portrays the twins in different ways.
Twins and their special bond are the focus of media admiration, and anime is no exception. Whether it’s a mischievous comic character who makes full use of their identity, or a tragic tale of siblings forced to fight to the death, their stories will always be unique.
Identical or not, all sets of twins are very different. Some of them are very close to each other and work great in tandem like Sakon and Ukon in Naruto. Others want nothing more than to get rid of their twin, like Vash the Hurricane in Trigun.
11. Sakon and Ukon (Naruto)
The two are not only one of the most unique twin pairings, but also use a fighting style that no other shinobi can imitate. Their kekkei genkai allows them to inhabit the same body, with Ukon dormant in his younger twin’s body until it’s time to fight when he breaks out with four extra limbs to pummel opponents.
Part of the personal bodyguard of one of the most evil villains in Naruto, Sakon and Yukon appear in the Sasuke’s Return Arc to waylay the Leaf Village crew and give Kiba Inuzuka his toughest fight yet. After all, he cannot defeat them alone: the brothers’ fusion technique allows them to also fuse with their opponents to fatally degrade their body. He is only saved by Kankurō’s intervention.
10. Takumi and Isami Aldini (Shokugeki no Souma)
Cooking and restaurant management is often a family business, as seen in several characters in Food Wars! But no one does it like Takumi and Isami, the twin heirs of Aldini’s Italian trattoria. Like Soma, the brothers have a lifetime of experience serving the public with their family’s food.

9. Atsumu and Osamu Miya (Haikyuu!!)
The Miya twins are outstanding players on the Inarizaki volleyball team and one of the best setter and striker pairings in Haikyu!! Although they may quarrel even on the court, Atsumu’s binder and Osamu’s attacker are a powerful pair, able to copy and perfectly execute Hinata and Kageyama’s famous quick attack, having only seen it once in “Rhythm”.
Being identical, they dyed their hair different colors to distinguish themselves from each other, but their opposite personalities would make it easier anyway. Atsumu is short-tempered, brash, and often rude, while Osamu is quiet, level-headed, and usually only tends to make fun of his brother.

While Vash would like nothing more than to avoid his brother, the Knives have their henchmen go after Vash relentlessly, seeking to punish Vash for abandoning him. In one of the best sibling rivalries in anime, Vash fiercely defends his ideals and autonomy and humanity’s right to exist, while Knives brutally tries to assert power over Vash and superiority over humans.
7. Kasumi and Shizuku Isshiki (Ibara no Ou)
In Lord of Thorns, the world is devastated by the Medusa virus, which turns its victims to stone. 160 people are chosen to go into cryogenic sleep indefinitely to give humanity hope of survival until a cure is found. Kasumi was chosen but her twin Shizuku was not, and she didn’t take the idea of them apart very well.
The viewer is led to believe that the twin the movie is about is Kasumi, but it is revealed that Kasumi actually died in a failed murder-suicide by falling off a cliff while trying to take Shizuka with her. Shizuku, empowered with supernatural powers due to being infected by Medusa, created a copy of Kasumi out of horror and guilt: despite supposedly being the better-adjusted sister, she too couldn’t live without her twin.
6. Johan and Nina Liebert (Monster)
One of the best one-season anime, Monster, features twins Yohan and Nina, whose relationship has always been characterized by fear. Since they are identical, their mother dressed them the same way as small children to hide the fact that there are two of them. But when she was forced to give up one of them, it made it unclear which twin she wanted to give up and why.
In adulthood, Johan still believes they are two halves of the same person, acting as if the traumas Nina went through really happened to him. In order to keep Nina for himself, he is willing to kill everyone else in her life, including every foster family that has ever taken them in. Nina is understandably afraid of her brother and decides to kill him to free herself from him.
5. Mairu and Kururi Orihara (Durarara!!)

As children, Izaya told them that if they were just two identical people, then one of them could very well be dead. They came to the conclusion that the solution was to take on different character traits and stick to them.
Now, as teenagers, twins don’t see themselves as separate people. Kururi is quiet and withdrawn, while Mairu is energetic and chatty. They are deeply protective of each other: Mairu once kicked a grown man in the face for harassing Kururi. While their brother Izaya favors shadow manipulation, the twins will attack directly and physically.
4. Rin and Yukio Okumura (Blue Exorcist)
Amazingly, the fact that Rin and Yukio are twins was the least unique thing about their birth. As sons of Satan, their potential for terrifying demonic power is limitless; just because Rin got the lion’s share of that power doesn’t mean Yukio can be discounted. Yukio is respected and highly skilled, but he was trained in exorcism by their adoptive father so he could protect Rin, causing Yukio to feel that Rin was the only one their father loved.
3. Hikari and Kaoru Hitachin (Ouran Koukou Host Club)
Hikaru and Kaoru have a complicated relationship with their twins. They base their entire identity on being twins, but also subconsciously crave individuality, which causes them to shut themselves off from anyone who isn’t and distrust anyone who can’t tell them apart. They constantly test people with their question “Which one is Hikaru?” a game that most fail to see who really treated them as individuals.
Learning to lead a separate life is an essential part of their character. They begin to adore Haruhi because she is the only person who can always tell which of the twins is, and how they deal with both falling in love with her brings out their different personalities.
2. Souya and Nahoya Kawata (Tokyo Revengers)
