Attack on Titan: 6 Smartest Characters

Strength is not always the most important thing, as the smartest characters from the Attack on Titan anime series prove.

Attack on Titan is in its final season and the stakes have never been higher. Undoubtedly, there will be many casualties before the anime ends. The anime is filled with many powerful personalities that can shape-shift and transform into Titans, while there are others that can kill Titans with ODM gear.

It is clear that powerful individuals are highly respected in the series, but power without intelligence is useless. Throughout the series, there have been instances that have shown that intelligence is just as important as physical strength. Attack on Titan has some of the smartest characters in the anime world, but who is at the top?

6. Levi Ackerman

Levi Ackerman is humanity’s strongest soldier. With his fighting skills, no Titan is safe from Levi Ackerman. Erwin was so confident in Levi that he was willing to risk his life and the lives of countless others to give Levi a chance to defeat the Beast Titan.

Besides being an exceptional fighter, Levi’s intelligence is overlooked by viewers, mainly because he doesn’t manipulate people or come up with complex plans, however, Levi has the street smarts to handle most situations. Having received a tough upbringing, Levi learned to navigate life by trying to stay alive.

5. Armin Arlert

Armin is one of Eren’s closest friends. Unlike Eren, who is very impulsive, Armin is very calm and collected. He is known for his ability to remain calm in the face of danger. On many occasions, Armin’s ability to formulate a plan proved invaluable to the Survey Corps. Armin’s plans were to help his fellow soldiers survive difficult situations.

After becoming a Colossal Titan, Armin’s behavior changed slightly as he became more ruthless. In the beginning, Armin couldn’t even fight back against the people who attacked him, but as the series progressed, Armin was ready to take on missions where he could kill hundreds of people in an instant.

4. Hange Zoe

Hange became commander of the Scout Corps after the death of Erwin Smith. It was a huge step up from her previous responsibility, but Hange managed to fill the boots well. Thanks to her leadership qualities, Erwin Smith will not go unnoticed.

Also, Hange is a genius when it comes to researching Titans and their abilities. She led research on the Titans and developed many scientific tools that enabled members of the Survey Corps to fight the Titans. Hange’s intelligence was one of the key factors that made the Survey Corps more powerful than ever.

3. Eren Yeager

Eren Yeager is the main protagonist of the series. Initially, Eren just wanted to kill the Titans and save the world, but over the course of the series, Eren’s image changed. After the end of the Battle of Shiganshina, Eren became a ruthless man who believed that his path was the right one.

His manner of doing business won him many admirers who supported him to the point of seizing power. Living as a Marley soldier, Eren has greatly improved his tactical skills. He became much smarter and he was able to develop better strategies. His character development is absolutely stunning as Eren has acted on impulse before.

2. Zeke Yeager

Zeke is Eren’s half-brother and currently owns the Beast Titan. As a titan, Zeke has immense strength that has allowed him to kill countless Survey Corps soldiers. Zeke’s intelligence makes him a dangerous opponent. He was able to trick both Marley and Eldia to further his own motives.

Zeke has shown himself to be a curious individual, as he was interested in the ODM equipment used by the Survey Corps to fight the Titans. Due to Zeke’s lack of empathy, he is able to make decisions involving the deaths of hundreds of people. What makes Zeke a real enemy is that he doesn’t let his emotions get in the way of his decisions.

1. Erwin Smith

Erwin Smith was the commander of the reconnaissance corps. He was an excellent leader, repeatedly showing his leadership qualities. Erwin was not the best soldier, but he was smarter than everyone around him. Erwin’s intellect allowed him to convince people quite easily. It was because of his ability to manipulate people that his troops went to certain death just to give Levi a chance to defeat the Beast Titan.

Erwin was able to formulate a strategy in minutes and this made him extremely reliable. Erwin had a habit of calculating his every move, and this made him unpredictable. With his quick wits, Erwin managed to take down a spy in the Survey Corps. In addition, Erwin’s strategies proved fruitful in capturing the Female Titan. Like all great leaders, Erwin had a stoic nature that made him immune to any rash decisions.
